Did you know that the way you BREATHE can tell us a lot about your dental health ?
Dysfunctional and mouth breathing habits have a direct impact on the health of your smile!
Chronic mouth breathing has been linked to :
- Problems with dry mouth and excessive thirst
- Bad breath
- Problems with enlarged adenoids
- Changes in oral pH (making it more acid!)
- An increase in harmful bacteria resulting in a predisposition to mouth ulcers, gingivitis and dental cavities
- Teeth grinding from TMJ tightness
- Narrowing of the palate and changes in jaw structure leading to overcrowded teeth
Dysfunctional breathing can come about in many ways but often begins in childhood and as a direct result of respiratory issues like allergies, chronic blocked nose and sinus problems. These problems become life long often with or without intervention because rarely if ever are our poor breathing habits corrected!
Don’t let the way you breathe get between you and your ideal smile.
